Multicrew Drone Combat

Drones have been rebuilt from the ground up. They fly on simulated physics, talk to you over a simulated radio link, and run on a battery that drains the way a real pack does.

Physics and controls

  • No more bouncing. Hits are properly simulated
  • Mouse or arrow keys control pitch and roll, A and D control yaw. Controller support is first-class
  • A new setting, "Sticky FPV drone throttle" (on by default), makes the throttle behave like a slider instead of dropping back to zero
  • The recon drone has a new GYRO mode, selected by default. Instead of taking direct stick input, the drone angles itself to fly wherever you point the camera, the way a consumer DJI drone does
  • You can fly from anywhere now. Press Space to leave the controller

Radio and link quality

  • Drones simulate a radio signal. RX in the new UI shows your received signal strength
  • Jammers, walls and terrain between you and the drone weaken the signal
  • Jammers use accurate transmit power. Two side by side add almost nothing (about -44.7 dBm against -47.78 dBm)
  • A weak signal costs you picture first and control responsiveness after that
  • The hard range limit of 1.2 km stays, roughly half of Dustbowl 2

Battery and power

  • A 6S LiPo pack of 4200 mAh with a real voltage discharge curve
  • Current draw follows the throttle, from 2 A idle to 50 A at full power, and is integrated to track the mAh actually used
  • The FPV HUD reads out both pack voltage and per-cell motor voltage
  • Available power drops as the pack drains, so the motors get noticeably weaker towards the end of a flight instead of cutting out at once
  • Flight time depends on how you fly rather than on a timer

Select APS can now intercept drones. For now the recon drone and the FPV drone are the two available on public servers, with more to come.

Changelog

  • Added the M41A1 to Eagle Federation cold war tier 1
  • Added support for more complex firing angle limits
  • Added inverse kinematics to machine gun control on select vehicles
  • Vehicle-based placeables no longer collide with the map
  • Binoculars moved from Z to V, which clashed with the stabiliser
  • Added a keybind to close a hatch (ctrl + space)

Maps

  • Removed Dustbowl 1 from rotation
  • Several Dustbowl 2 fixes
  • Several Rohkshort fixes

Gameplay, quality of life and fixes

  • The "Deploy smoke grenades" communication wheel option now checks for a smoke shell as well
  • Fixed the Object 279 track hitbox
  • Improved the conditions for the "Friendly" marker
  • Middle mouse ping now works inside buildings
  • Added the ability to middle mouse ping players
  • Moved "Great job" into the "Answer..." group on the communication wheel
  • Fixed the wrong bullet sound and effects playing when hitting a character
  • Fixed recoil not respecting turret rotation
  • Fixed the HERO-120 drone's short lifetime, which kept it from reaching far targets
  • Fixed the camera bugging out when you are knocked out while scoped in
  • Fixed thermals overriding the commander ping's red highlight
  • Fixed custom loadouts handing passive tools to every team
  • Fixed weapons being usable by BMP-3M bow gunners
  • Fixed the XM8 hatch being invisible
  • Added a vertical limit config for elevation limit zones
  • Elevation no longer snaps instantly when it meets a limit zone
  • Added the Shot Mk.8 to the Comet I
  • New reticles for some modern vehicles
  • Adjusted T-64E performance and moved it down to tier 2
  • Fixed BMP-2M smokes not being attached to the turret
