- Description
- The BMP-2M is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle and a modernized BMP-2 that replaces the original 30 mm and Konkurs fit with a more capable turret and fire control. The BMP-2 itself entered Soviet service in the 1980s as a successor to the BMP-1, emphasizing a high-elevation 30 mm cannon for infantry and helicopter engagement. The 14.5 t tracked, amphibious hull (65 km/h, 4 km/h afloat) is powered by a UTD-23 diesel producing 400 hp (27.6 hp/t) and carries a crew of three plus seven passengers.
The turret mounts a 30mm 2A42M autocannon, 30mm AG-30 grenade launcher, 7.62mm PKT, and 9M133 Kornet ATGMs, with a two-plane stabilizer, laser rangefinder, FCS with lead and tracking, and Gen 2 thermals. The commander has a CITV with laser; defensive equipment includes smoke grenades and an engine smoke system.
