- Description
- The BMP-3M Arena is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle and a modernized variant of the Soviet BMP-3, with improved optics and the Arena active protection system. The base BMP-3 entered service in the late 1980s and was notable for its combination of a 100 mm gun/launcher, 30 mm autocannon, and troop capacity in a single turret. The M upgrade retains the 18.7 t tracked, amphibious hull (70 km/h, 4 km/h afloat) and UTD-29 diesel (500 hp, 26.7 hp/t), with a crew of three and six passengers.
Main armament is the 100mm 2A70M (ATGM and HE) and 30mm 2A72 autocannon plus 7.62mm PKT, with stabilizer, laser rangefinder, FCS with lead and tracking, Gen 2 thermals, and a missile approach warning system. Arena APS provides 34 launchers for intercepting incoming projectiles (70–1,000 m/s); the vehicle also has smoke grenades and an engine smoke system.
