- The Comet Mk.1 is a Medium Tank, a British cruiser tank that entered service in late 1944 and combined the Cromwell’s mobility with a more powerful 77mm OQF Mk.II gun derived from the 17-pounder. It weighs 33.5 tonnes with a crew of five — driver, gunner, bow gunner, commander, and loader — and is tracked. The Rolls-Royce Meteor Mark III produces 600 hp for 17.9 hp/t and a top speed of 52 km/h, with neutral steering and an engine smoke system.
The main gun is complemented by coaxial and bow 7.92 mm BESA machine guns; the gunner has no stabilizer or rangefinder. Lower profile and improved armament made it an effective late-war cruiser.
