- The T-72B3 is a Main Battle Tank and a Russian Army modernization of the T-72B, introduced in the 2010s to extend the service life of existing hulls with a new engine, sighting, and improved ERA. The T-72 has been the backbone of Soviet and Russian armored forces since the 1970s; the B3 upgrade brings the platform closer to contemporary fire-control and mobility standards without a full replacement. A crew of three operates the 46-tonne tracked vehicle, powered by a ChTZ V-84MS diesel (840 hp, 18.3 hp/t) for a top speed of just over 61 km/h.
Main armament is a stabilized 125mm 2A46M-5 with autoloader, firing 3BM46 APFSDS, 9M119 Refleks ATGM, 3BK18M HEAT, and 3OF26 HE; the gunner has a laser rangefinder, FCS with lead and tracking, Gen 2 thermals, and 4x/12x zoom. A coaxial 7.62mm PKT and a commander's 12.7mm KORD round out the armament; smoke grenades and engine smoke are fitted.
