- The BMP-3 (2017) is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle that entered Soviet service in the late 1980s, combining a low-profile tracked hull with an unusually heavy armament suite. It was designed to keep pace with tanks while carrying a full infantry squad and providing direct fire support. The 18.7 t vehicle is crewed by a driver, gunner, and commander plus six passengers, and is fully amphibious at 4 km/h; a UTD-29 diesel delivers 500 hp (26.7 hp/t) for 70 km/h on land, with active suspension and neutral steering.
The turret mounts a 100mm 2A70 (or 2A70M) gun/launcher firing 9M117 (or 9M117M1) ATGMs and HE, a 30mm 2A72 autocannon, and a 7.62mm PKT; two passenger 7.62mm PKT positions are also fitted. Fire control includes a stabilizer, laser rangefinder, FCS, Gen 2 thermals and lead computation. Smoke grenades and an engine smoke system are standard. This vehicle features four addons: Commander Weapon, ERA Package, Improved Autocannon and Floater. The Commander Weapon addon costs 750 points and equips a remote weapons station with two 9M120 Ataka ATGMs; these missiles feature two firing modes: HE (containing 6.9 kg of explosive filler) and AP (utilizing a tandem warhead with 800 mm of maximum penetration). This addon also integrates a CITV with full FCS and target lead capabilities. The ERA Package costs 500 points and applies explosive reactive armor to the turret, hull sides, and LFP, providing approximately 60 mm KE and 750 mm CE protection. The Improved Autocannon addon costs 250 points and replaces the stock APDS with APFSDS, increasing maximum penetration by 15 mm (from 82 mm to 97 mm). Finally, the Floaters addon costs 50 points; it grants the BMP-3 (2017) the ability to cross bodies of water while providing a marginal increase in armor protection. The ERA Package and Floater cannot be used together.
