- Description
- The T-72M2E is a Main Battle Tank and an early prototype of the T-72M2 family, distinguished by dual 20mm Oerlikon KAA autocannons mounted alongside the main gun for enhanced anti-personnel and soft-target firepower. Based on the export T-72M, the M2 series was developed to combine the 125 mm main armament with auxiliary cannon armament for urban and asymmetric engagements. The three-man crew operates a 44.5-tonne tracked vehicle powered by an S12U diesel (850 hp, 19.1 hp/t), with a top speed of 60 km/h.
The stabilized 125mm 2A46MS is fed by an autoloader and is paired with a laser rangefinder, fire control system, 8x sight, and Gen 2 thermals; the twin 20 mm guns and a coaxial 7.62mm PKT provide secondary fire. Laser warning and commander thermal CITV are fitted; smoke grenades and engine smoke are available for screening.
