- Description
- The T-72M2 30mm is a Main Battle Tank and a modernized export T-72 variant that adds a 30mm TK VZ.95 autocannon alongside the main gun for improved anti-infantry and light-vehicle capability. The T-72M series was the export version of the Soviet T-72, produced under license by Warsaw Pact and other nations; the M2 30mm configuration represents a later prototype with a single 30 mm cannon instead of the earlier dual 20 mm arrangement. Crewed by three on a 44.5-tonne tracked chassis, it is powered by an S12U diesel producing 850 horsepower (19.1 hp/t) and reaches 60 km/h.
Main armament is a stabilized 125mm 2A46MS with autoloader (P99 TAPNA, 3BK12M HEAT, 3OF26 HE), with a laser rangefinder, fire control system, 8x optical sight, and a Gen 2 thermal sight; the 30 mm autocannon and coaxial 7.62mm PKT provide secondary fire. The commander has a thermal CITV and laser warning; smoke grenades and engine smoke complete the defenses.
