- Description
- The T-34-122 is an Assault Gun built on a T-34 chassis by mounting a 122mm D-30 howitzer in place of the standard turret, creating a makeshift but potent direct- and indirect-fire platform. The D-30 is the same ordnance used on the 2S1 Gvozdika and many towed artillery pieces. The 33-tonne tracked vehicle is crewed by four — driver, gunner, bow gunner, and loader — and powered by a Model V-2-34 diesel (500 hp, 15.2 hp/t) for 55 km/h.
The 122mm D-30 fires HE and HEAT (3OF56 and 3BK-10) with a 22-second reload; the gunner has a 3x sight and no stabilizer or rangefinder. A bow 7.62mm DT-28 provides close-in defense. The T-34-122 sacrifices turret flexibility and rate of fire for heavy caliber and hull-down fire support.
