The OT-34-85 is a Flamethrower Tank, a Soviet T-34-85 variant that replaced the bow machine gun with an ATO-41 flamethrower for clearing fortifications and strongpoints; such vehicles saw use in the latter part of World War II and in postwar doctrine. The vehicle is tracked, weighs 32.2 tonnes, and is crewed by five — driver, gunner, bow gunner, commander, and loader — and is powered by a Model V-2-34 diesel engine producing 500 horsepower for a 15.5 hp/t power-to-weight ratio and a top speed of 55 km/h forward and 8.4 km/h in reverse. The main armament is the 85mm ZIS-S-53 cannon with a 7.8-second reload and O-365K and BR-365 ammunition, plus a coaxial 7.62mm DT-28; the bow gunner operates the ATO-41 flamethrower with napalm from a 250-round magazine, with a stabilizer for the bow mount. The gunner uses a 4× telescope sight with no rangefinder. The combination of 85 mm gun and flamethrower made the OT-34-85 a versatile assault vehicle for urban and fortified combat.
