- The Marder A1 is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle and the first major upgrade of the West German Marder, which entered service in 1971 and became a cornerstone of Bundeswehr mechanized infantry; the A1 modernized the fire control and powerpack while retaining the original turret and armament. The vehicle is tracked, weighs 29.1 tonnes, and carries a crew of three — driver, gunner, and commander — plus five passengers for a total of eight, and is powered by an MTU MB 833 Ea-500 diesel engine producing 600 horsepower for a 20.6 hp/t power-to-weight ratio and a symmetric top speed of 75 km/h, with neutral steering and an automatic gearbox.
The gunner operates a 20mm Rh202 cannon and a coaxial 7.62mm MG3; the main gun has no stabilizer (as noted in-game) and the gunner uses 2× and 6× magnification without a laser rangefinder. A passenger can operate a second MG3 from a roof mount. Optional addons include MILAN ATGMs and a Wärmeortungsempfänger thermal imager. Smoke grenades and a 75 km/h reverse speed aid in disengagement.
