The M36 Jackson is a Tank Destroyer mounting the 90 mm M3 gun on an open-topped turret atop the M10 Wolverine chassis. It was fielded in 1944 to give U.S. tank destroyer battalions a weapon capable of engaging Panthers and Tigers at range. The vehicle weighs 28.1 tonnes and is crewed by five: driver, gunner, bow gunner, commander, and loader. The Ford GAA V8 produces 450 horsepower for 16 hp/t and a top speed of 48 km/h. Main armament is the 90 mm M3 cannon with AP, APCR, and HE; a cupola 12.7 mm M2 provides anti-aircraft and local defense. The commander’s position has a stabilizer; the gunner uses a 4x/8x telescope with no rangefinder. The open turret improves visibility but leaves the crew exposed to small arms and shell splinters.
