- The Leopard 1A5 is a Main Battle Tank and one of the final upgrades to the West German Leopard 1 series, which entered Bundeswehr service in 1965 as one of the first post-war European MBTs. The A5 variant introduced a modernized fire control system with a thermal imaging sight and laser rangefinder, significantly improving the platform's combat effectiveness in the 1980s. The Leopard 1 family was produced by Krauss-Maffei and saw widespread export to over a dozen nations.
The vehicle retains the 105mm L7A3 rifled gun as its main armament, supplemented by a coaxial and roof-mounted machine gun. The improved fire control system with computerized ballistics and thermal optics gives the A5 a marked advantage over earlier Leopard 1 variants in target acquisition and engagement at range, particularly in low-visibility conditions. This vehicle features a single addon: DM33. The DM33 addon costs 500 points and replaces the stock DM23 with the DM33 APFSDS; this shell offers a 74 mm increase in maximum penetration (from 334 mm to 408 mm), significantly boosting the overall lethality of the tank.
