The Turm III is a Main Battle Tank based on the German experimental Versuchsträger 1-2 (test bed) concept, which paired a Leopard 1 hull with a novel two-story turret mounting a 105 mm gun and a 30 mm autocannon. The design explored improved firepower and commander independence without the weight of a full next-generation tank. Weighing 42.5 tonnes with a three-man crew, it is powered by an MTU MB 838 CaM 500 diesel producing 830 horsepower (19.5 hp/t) and reaches 65 km/h forward and 25 km/h reverse with neutral steering.
Main armament is the L7A3 105mm rifled gun with a 5-second reload; a 30mm HSS 831L autocannon is mounted coaxially for light armour and soft targets, and the commander has a 7.62mm MG3. The turret is stabilized but the gunner’s sight is an 8x optical telescope without a laser rangefinder or thermals.
This vehicle features a single addon: Utility Modifications. The Utility Modifications cost 500 points and equip the Turm III with 20 smoke grenades, which provide excellent obscurement for tactical repositioning or concealing damaged allies, alongside a dozer blade which deploys when the vehicle is in first gear, enabling the safe clearance of enemy mines during slow-speed advances.
