- Description
- The IS-3 is a Heavy Tank developed by the Soviet Union in the closing phase of the Second World War, entering production in 1945 with its distinctive "pike nose" glacis and hemispherical turret; it shocked Western observers when paraded in Berlin and became a benchmark for postwar heavy tank design. It is a tracked vehicle weighing 48 tonnes with a crew of four — driver, gunner, commander, and loader. The V-2IS diesel delivers 520 horsepower, giving 10.8 hp/t and a maximum speed of 40 km/h.
Main armament is the 122mm D-25T gun, supported by a coaxial 7.62mm DT-28 and a commander's 12.7mm DSHK on a stabilized cupola. The gunner uses a 4x telescope sight with no rangefinder.
