- Description
- The BMP-1AM is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle and a modernization of the BMP-1 that replaces the original 73 mm turret with a new one armed with a 30mm 2A72 autocannon. The upgrade extends the service life of the hull while providing stabilized, laser-ranged fire and better anti-infantry and light vehicle capability. The 14.2 t tracked vehicle remains amphibious (65 km/h, 7 km/h afloat) and is powered by the same UTD-20 diesel (300 hp, 21.1 hp/t), with a crew of three and six passengers.
The new turret adds a two-plane stabilizer, smoke grenades, laser rangefinder, and FCS with 4×–12× zoom; armament is the 30 mm cannon and 7.62mm PKT only, with no ATGM. The BMP-1AM has been offered for export and used by several operators as a low-cost IFV upgrade.
