- The BMD-1 is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle designed for Soviet airborne forces, combining light weight and air-droppability with the same 73mm 2A28 gun and 9M14M (AT-3 Sagger) ATGM as the BMP-1. It entered service in the late 1960s and could be paradropped with its crew. The 7.5 t tracked hull is amphibious (80 km/h on land, 4 km/h afloat) and uses a 5D-20 diesel producing 241 hp for a 32.1 hp/t power-to-weight ratio; active suspension allows ride-height adjustment. Crew of three and four passengers are carried.
The turret mounts the 73 mm gun (PG-9/OG-9) and 7.62mm PKT, plus a rail for 9M14M ATGMs, with a 6× sight and no stabilizer or laser rangefinder. An engine smoke system is fitted. Light armour was accepted in exchange for strategic mobility. This vehicle features two addons: BMD-1PK and Airdrop. The BMD-1PK upgrade costs 1,000 points and replaces the stock 9M14M Malyutka MACLOS ATGMs with 9M113 Konkurs SACLOS ATGMs. This boosts combat effectiveness by increasing penetration by 100 mm (from 400 mm to 500 mm) while providing a much more intuitive guidance system. The Airdrop addon costs 2,000 points and allows the vehicle to deploy at almost any location on the map, enabling flanking maneuvers or the capture of distant enemy objectives.
