General information

Description
The Type 89 is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle developed for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and entering service in 1989; it carries a squad of seven dismounts and provides fire support with a 35 mm cannon and anti-tank missiles, in a role similar to the US M2 Bradley. In-game it is a tracked vehicle weighing 26.5 tonnes with seating for ten — driver, gunner, commander, and seven passengers — and is powered by an MHI 6SY31WA diesel producing 600 horsepower for 22.6 hp/t and a top speed of 70 km/h forward and 43 km/h backward, with neutral steering and an automatic gearbox.
The stabilized turret mounts a 35mm Oerlikon KDE autocannon, a coaxial 7.62mm Type 74 machine gun, and a Type 79 ATGM launcher; the gunner has a laser rangefinder, fire control system with lead, Gen 1 green thermals, and 2x–8x zoom. A laser warning system and smoke grenades are fitted for defense.
