- Description
- The Hornisse (later redesignated Nashorn) is a Tank Destroyer built by Germany during the Second World War, mounting the long 8.8 cm Pak 43/1 on a lengthened Panzer III/IV chassis for long-range anti-tank work. It is a tracked vehicle weighing 24.3 tonnes with a crew of four — driver, gunner, commander, and loader. The MB HL120 TRM diesel delivers 296 hp for 12.2 hp/t and a top speed of 40 km/h.
The main gun is complemented by a commander's stabilized 7.92mm MG34 for local defense. The gunner has a 5x telescope sight with no rangefinder; the open-topped fighting compartment offers no overhead protection.
