- Description
- The M60A3 TTS is a Main Battle Tank and the final production variant of the US M60 Patton series, with the Tank Thermal Sight (TTS) and improved fire control that entered service in the late 1970s. The M60 family served as the backbone of US and allied armoured forces until the introduction of the M1 Abrams. The 52.6-tonne tracked vehicle is crewed by four — driver, gunner, commander, and loader — and is powered by an AVDS-1790-2 diesel producing 750 hp for 14.3 hp/t and a top speed of 48 km/h.
Main armament is the stabilized 105mm M68E1 rifled gun with a laser rangefinder, Gen 1 green thermals, and fire control system; ammunition includes APFSDS (M774), HEAT (M456A2), HEP (M393A2), and smoke (M416). A coaxial 7.62mm M240 and commander's 12.7mm M85 machine gun are fitted, and the vehicle has smoke grenades and an engine smoke system.
