- The M113 is an Armoured Personnel Carrier that became one of the most widely used tracked armored vehicles of the Cold War and beyond. First fielded by the United States in the early 1960s, it has been produced in the tens of thousands and adopted by dozens of nations for troop transport, command posts, and specialized variants. The baseline APC is crewed by a driver and commander with room for seven passengers, weighs 12.3 tonnes, and is fully amphibious at 4 km/h. A 6V53 diesel delivers 212 horsepower for 17.2 hp/t and a top speed of 64 km/h.
The commander operates a stabilized 12.7mm M2 machine gun from an open cupola for self-defense and overwatch. Light aluminum armour protects against small arms and shell splinters; the vehicle relies on mobility and swimming capability to avoid heavier threats.
