- The Leopard 2A8DK is a Main Battle Tank and a Danish-focused evolution of the Leopard 2 line, combining the 2A7-style hull and turret with an active protection system and upgraded sensors. The “DK” designation reflects Denmark’s procurement of a tailored variant for its armored forces. The tank is crewed by four on a tracked hull weighing 64.1 tonnes, powered by an MTU MB 893 Ka-501 diesel producing 1,650 horsepower for 25.7 hp/t and 72 km/h. An APS with two launchers (three charges each) can intercept incoming projectiles between 70 and 1,000 m/s; laser and missile approach warning systems are fitted. Main armament is the stabilized 120mm Rh120 L/55 A1 with a laser rangefinder, FCS with lead and tracking, and Gen 3 thermals; a coaxial 7.62mm MG3, a commander 12.7mm M2 in a remote station with FCS and Gen 3 thermals, and a loader 7.62mm MG3 complete the fit. Smoke grenades and full situational-awareness optics make the 2A8DK one of the best-protected and best-sensor-equipped Leopard 2 variants.
