- The HSTV-L (High Survivability Test Vehicle – Light) is a Light Tank, an American 1980s technology demonstrator built to test a low-profile, high-mobility platform with an automatic 75 mm gun for the next-generation light tank requirement. It is a tracked vehicle weighing 20 tonnes with a crew of three — driver, gunner, and commander. The Lycoming 650 gas turbine produces 650 hp for 32.5 hp/t and a top speed of 83 km/h, with neutral steering.
Primary armament is the 75mm ADMAG automatic cannon with a stabilizer and smoke grenades; the fire control system includes a laser rangefinder, lead and tracking, and thermals. The vehicle trades armour for speed and firepower.
