The Churchill AVRE is a Support Vehicle based on the Churchill infantry tank, adapted in World War II for the Royal Engineers as an assault platform for breaching bunkers, wire, and other obstacles ahead of infantry. The AVRE family is closely associated with specialist engineer equipment and close-support demolition fire rather than conventional tank duels. In-game it is a tracked vehicle weighing 41 tonnes, crewed by five — a driver, gunner, bow gunner, commander, and loader. A Bedford twelve-cylinder diesel produces 350 horsepower for an 8.5 hp/t power-to-weight ratio, with a top speed of 20.4 km/h forward and 2.5 km/h in reverse; four forward gears, one reverse, and neutral steering aid low-speed positioning.
Its primary armament is the L9A1 165mm demolition gun firing L33A1 rounds from a split stowage of four rounds in the turret and thirty-six in the hull, with a 20-second reload cycle. The gunner’s telescope sight offers 1.9× magnification and no rangefinder. Smoke grenades are fitted on the gunner’s turret, and an engine smoke system provides additional concealment. The bow position mounts a stabilized 7.92 mm BESA machine gun, while the loader operates a grenade mortar with fragmentation and smoke ammunition for close-area effects.
