- Description
- The CATTB (Component Advanced Technology Test Bed) is a Prototype Main Battle Tank built by the United States in the late 1980s to test a 140 mm gun, autoloader, and advanced powertrain as part of the AGS (Advanced Gun System) program. The chassis used modified M1 components with an XAP-1000 engine and active suspension. The 57 t tracked vehicle is crewed by three — driver, gunner, and commander — and reaches 68 km/h forward and 38 km/h reverse, with ride height and pitch adjustment from active suspension. The XAP-1000 diesel produces 1,500 hp for 26.3 hp/t.
Main armament is the 140mm XM291 with a 5 s autoloader cycle and XM964 and XM965 ammunition. The gunner has a laser rangefinder, Gen 2 thermals, 3x and 10x zoom, and FCS with lead; LWS and MAWS are fitted. Stabilizer, smoke grenades, and engine smoke are standard.
