- The 2S6 is the GRAU designation for the 2S6 Tunguska, a Self Propelled Anti Aircraft system that pairs 30 mm cannons with short-range surface-to-air missiles for low-altitude air defense. Entering Soviet service in the early 1980s, the Tunguska replaced and supplemented the ZSU-23-4 Shilka by adding the 9M311 (SA-19) missile for engagement beyond gun range. The vehicle weighs 41 tonnes and is crewed by four — driver, gunner, commander, and radar operator — on a tracked chassis with active suspension. A ChTZ V-84DT diesel produces 780 horsepower for 19 hp/t and a top speed of 65 km/h in both directions, with neutral steering.
The turret mounts twin 30mm 2A38 cannons and eight 9M311 missiles, with a stabilized mount capable of -9° to 85° elevation and 80 deg/s traverse. The gunner has a laser rangefinder, 8x sight, and fire control system with lead and tracking; the commander and radar operator have separate cupolas. Armour is light, as the vehicle is intended to accompany formations rather than absorb direct fire.
