- The T-90A is a Main Battle Tank and the first major production variant of the Russian T-90, introduced in the early 2000s with a welded turret, improved armour, and the Shtora-1 electro-optical countermeasures system (the distinctive “eyes” on the turret). Weighing 46.5 tonnes with a three-man crew, it is powered by a ChTZ V-92S2 diesel producing 1,000 horsepower (21.5 hp/t) and reaches 61.33 km/h forward and 4 km/h in reverse.
Main armament is the 125mm 2A46M-5 smoothbore with an autoloader (6.8-second cycle), firing APFSDS, HEAT, HE-Frag, and 9M119 ATGMs; a coaxial 7.62mm PKT and commander’s 12.7mm KORD complete the armament. The T-90A has a laser warning system, stabilizer, smoke grenades, and engine smoke. The gunner has a laser rangefinder, fire control with lead, and a thermal sight with second-generation white-hot imaging and tracking; the commander has a 1x–8x cupola sight.
