- The Object 640 is a Main Battle Tank and refers to the Russian Object 640 "Black Eagle" prototype, a late-1990s design that married a new welded turret with a bustle autoloader to a lengthened T-80-style hull; the project did not enter production. It is a tracked vehicle weighing 48 tonnes with a crew of three — driver, gunner, and commander — and is powered by a GTD-1500 gas turbine producing 1,500 horsepower for a 31.3 hp/t power-to-weight ratio and a top speed of 70 km/h.
The main armament is the 125mm 2A46M-5 cannon with a 4-second autoloader cycle and ammunition including 3BM59 APFSDS, 3BK18M HEAT, 3OF26 HE, and the 9M119M1 ATGM; the gun is fully stabilized and served by a fire control system with lead and tracking, laser rangefinder, and third-generation white-hot thermals at 4× and 12×. The commander has a stabilizer and a CITV with laser and thermals. Defensive equipment includes a laser warning system, missile approach warning system, and an active protection system with 14 launchers capable of intercepting projectiles between 70 and 700 m/s, plus an engine smoke system.
