- Description
- The Mi-24V is a Helicopter Gunship and the most produced variant of the Soviet Mi-24 "Hind," combining transport capacity for eight troops with a fixed 12.7mm YAK-B rotary machine gun and optional ATGMs and rockets; it entered service in the 1970s and saw extensive combat in Afghanistan and elsewhere. The helicopter has a crew of two — pilot and co-pilot — and can carry up to 8 passengers for a total seating capacity of 10.
The co-pilot operates the stabilized YAK-B with a 1,470-round magazine and a fire control system with lead and tracking and a laser rangefinder at 3.3×–10× zoom; the pilot has a flare dispenser. Optional addons include the 9M114 Shturm ATGM, S-8KOM and B-13L rocket pods, UPK-23 gunpods, an exhaust cooler, an IR jammer, and a "P" variant. The Mi-24V set the template for the later Mi-24VM and other modernized Hinds.
