- Description
- The BMD-4M is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle and a modernized BMD-4 (BMD-3 derivative) for Russian airborne forces, with a Bakhcha-U turret mounting a 100 mm gun/launcher and 30 mm autocannon. The design keeps the BMD lineage’s air-droppable, amphibious layout while adding firepower comparable to the BMP-3. The 15 t tracked hull reaches 70 km/h on land and 4 km/h afloat, with a UTD-29 diesel producing 500 hp (33.3 hp/t), active suspension, neutral steering, and a crew of three plus five passengers.
Main armament is the 100mm 2A70M (9M117M1 ATGM and HE) and 30mm 2A72 plus 7.62mm PKT, with stabilizer, laser rangefinder, FCS with lead and tracking, Gen 2 thermals, and a commander CITV. Smoke grenades and an engine smoke system are fitted; optional add-ons include extra armour and airdrop kit.
