- Description
- The PT-76B is a Light Tank and an amphibious reconnaissance vehicle developed in the Soviet Union in the 1950s; it was widely exported and saw combat in numerous conflicts. Weighing 14 tonnes, it is crewed by three: driver, commander, and loader. The V-6 diesel produces 240 hp for 17.1 hp/t, 43 km/h on land and 10.2 km/h in water.
Main armament is the 76.2 mm D-56TM with HE (OF-350M), HEAT (BK-354M), and AP (BR-354), plus a coaxial 7.62mm PKT. The commander/gunner has a stabilizer and 4x telescope; there is no rangefinder or FCS. An engine smoke system is fitted. The PT-76B trades armour for amphibious capability and a useful gun, making it effective in wetlands and riverine operations.
