- Description
- The M3 Lee is a Medium Tank of early Second World War design, with a 75 mm gun in a sponson on the right side of the hull and a 37 mm gun in a small top turret. It was an interim type until the M4 Sherman entered production; the British called it the Lee, the U.S. the Grant. The vehicle weighs 27.7 tonnes and is crewed by seven: driver, two gunners, bow gunner, commander, and two loaders. The Continental R975 EC2 radial produces 400 horsepower for 14.4 hp/t and 39 km/h top speed.
Main armament is the 75 mm M2 in the sponson (HE and AP) and the 37 mm M5 in the turret; three .30 cal M1919 machine guns are fitted in the turret, bow, and commander’s positions. All weapon stations have stabilizers; sights are 1x with no rangefinder.
