The M3 GMC (Gun Motor Carriage) is a Tank Destroyer consisting of the 75 mm M1897A4 (a modernized French 75) mounted on the chassis of the M3 half-track. It was fielded in 1942 as an early U.S. tank destroyer before the M10 and M18 entered service. Weighing 9.1 tonnes, it is crewed by four — driver, gunner, commander, and loader — and is tracked. The White 160AX engine produces 148 horsepower for 16.3 hp/t and a top speed of 76 km/h.
The only primary weapon is the 75 mm M1897A4 with HE and AP; there is no coaxial or anti-aircraft machine gun. The gun has limited traverse (6 deg/s horizontal) and a 1x telescope with no rangefinder. Light armour and an open fighting compartment keep weight down but expose the crew.
