- The M109A6 Paladin is a Self-Propelled Howitzer and a modernized variant of the long-serving M109 155 mm artillery system. The A6 upgrade added an inertial navigation system, improved fire control, and the ability to shoot and move without external surveying, entering U.S. service in the 1990s. The vehicle is crewed by four — driver, gunner, commander, and loader — on a tracked chassis weighing 26 tonnes, powered by an 8V71T 500 diesel producing 500 horsepower for 19.2 hp/t and 61 km/h.
The 155mm M284 howitzer fires a wide range of charges and projectile types, including VT and proximity-fused rounds, with 4x optical sights; the commander has a stabilized 12.7mm M2 for local defense. No main-gun stabilizer is fitted; the Paladin is intended to fire from prepared or quick halt positions.
