- Description
- The Leopard 2A7V is a Main Battle Tank and a heavily modernised Leopard 2 variant developed for the German Army, with improved hull and turret protection, upgraded optics, and the 120mm Rh120 L/55 A1 gun. The “V” denotes Verbesserte (improved); the design incorporates lessons from operations in Afghanistan. In-game it weighs 66.5 tonnes with a crew of four and is tracked. The same MTU MB 873 Ka-501 engine (1,500 hp) gives 22.6 hp/t and 63 km/h forward; the extra weight reduces speed compared to the 2A4/2A6. The main gun fires DM73 APFSDS, DM11 multi-purpose, and DM12A1 HEAT, with a 6 s reload. Fire control includes a laser rangefinder, lead and tracking, and Gen 3 white thermals at 3x and 12x; commander and loader turrets are stabilised, and the vehicle has smoke grenades. Secondary armament is two 7.62mm MG3 machine guns (coaxial and loader’s cupola).
