- Description
- The KV-2 (ZIS-6) is an Assault Gun and a variant of the Soviet KV-2 heavy tank, armed with the long 107mm ZIS-6 gun instead of the standard 152 mm howitzer. The KV-2 was developed in 1940 for breaking through fortified lines; the ZIS-6 version was a prototype intended to improve anti-tank performance with a high-velocity 107 mm piece, though it did not enter mass production. Crewed by five — driver, gunner, bow gunner, commander, and loader — the vehicle weighs 52.4 tonnes on a tracked chassis. A V-2K diesel produces 600 horsepower for 11.5 hp/t and a top speed of 34 km/h forward and 6.2 km/h reverse.
The main armament is the 107mm ZIS-6 with OF-420 and B-420 ammunition and a 16-second reload; secondary armament consists of 7.62mm DT-28 machine guns in the turret and bow, with the loader and bow gunner positions offering stabilized mouse-aim. Sights are limited to a 2.5x telescope and periscope with no rangefinder.
