- Description
- The IS-2 1944 is a Heavy Tank and the main production variant of the Soviet Iosif Stalin series, fielded in large numbers from 1944 onward; its 122 mm gun and thick armour made it a formidable opponent for German heavy tanks on the Eastern Front. The vehicle weighs 46 tonnes and is crewed by four — driver, gunner, commander, and loader — and is tracked. The V-2IS diesel produces 520 hp for 11.3 hp/t and a top speed of 37 km/h.
Primary armament is the 122mm D-25T cannon with a coaxial 7.62mm DT-28; the commander and loader each have stabilized positions with 12.7mm DSHK and 7.62mm DT-28 respectively, and the driver has a 7.62mm DT-28. The gunner has a 4x telescope and 1x periscope; there is no rangefinder.
