- Description
- The Challenger Falcon is a Main Battle Tank built on the Challenger 2 hull but fitted with a distinctive low-profile turret and an autoloaded 120 mm gun. The design reflects modern proposals to reduce crew and silhouette while retaining heavy armour and firepower. Weighing 59 t, it is crewed by three — driver, gunner, and commander — and is tracked, with a top speed of 56 km/h and 38 km/h in reverse. The Perkins CV12 diesel delivers 1,314 hp for 22.3 hp/t.
The 120mm RUAG L50 is fed by an autoloader (11 rounds ready, 27 in the hull) and is paired with a coaxial 7.62mm L8A2. The turret has a stabilizer, laser warning system, and smoke grenades. Optics include a gunner main sight with Gen 3 thermals, laser rangefinder, FCS with lead and tracking, and a commander CITV with Gen 3 thermals; an engine smoke system is fitted for defense.
