- Description
- The BMD-2 is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle that updated the BMD-1 with a 30mm 2A42 autocannon and optional 9M113 Konkurs (or 9M113M) ATGMs, mirroring the evolution from BMP-1 to BMP-2. It was developed for Soviet airborne units to improve anti-infantry and anti-aircraft capability while retaining air-droppability. The 11.5 t tracked hull remains amphibious (80 km/h, 4 km/h afloat) with active suspension and a 5D-20 diesel (241 hp, 21 hp/t), crew of three and four passengers.
The turret has a two-plane stabilizer and elevation to 75° for engaging helicopters; the gunner has a 6× sight and the commander a 5× cupola sight, but no laser rangefinder or thermals. Engine smoke system is standard.
