- The Begleitpanzer 57 is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle built on the chassis of the German Marder IFV, conceived to escort Leopard 2 tanks and engage light armour, helicopters, and infantry with a rapid-fire cannon and anti-tank missiles. The real-world Begleitpanzer 57 was a West German 1980s project that never entered serial production; the design combined a Bofors 57mm L/70 in a fully stabilized turret with TOW missiles for a flexible fire-support role. Operated by a crew of three — driver, gunner, and commander — on a tracked hull weighing 28.5 tonnes, it is powered by an MTU MB 833 Ea-500 diesel producing 600 horsepower for a 21.1 hp/t power-to-weight ratio and a top speed of 75 km/h in both directions.
The main armament is the stabilized 57mm L/70 with a 48-round magazine and a mix of SAP-T, HE-VT, AP-T, and HE-T ammunition, paired with a coaxial 7.62mm MG3 and BGM-71A TOW ATGMs. The gunner benefits from a laser rangefinder, fire control system with lead computation, and Gen 1 green thermals at 4x and 12x zoom; the commander has a separate stabilized turret with a CITV featuring 2x and 8x magnification and laser rangefinder for target handoff.
