- Description
- The MOWAG-Bofors is a Self Propelled Anti Aircraft vehicle combining a MOWAG wheeled chassis with a Bofors 40 mm L/70 anti-aircraft gun. MOWAG (later General Dynamics European Land Systems) produced a family of amphibious armoured vehicles in Switzerland; this variant is tailored for short-range air defence with a potent gun and modern fire control. The 21-tonne wheeled vehicle is crewed by a driver and gunner, is amphibious at 4 km/h, and reaches 100 km/h on road. The Detroit 6V53T diesel produces 300 hp for 14.3 hp/t.
The 40mm Bofors L/70 is the main armament, fed by 100-round magazines and firing programmable 3P ammunition as well as AP-T; the turret is stabilized and has a laser rangefinder, Gen 1 white thermals, and a full fire control system with lead and tracking. An engine smoke system is not listed in defenses.
