The AMX-13 is a Light Tank developed in France after the Second World War, entering production in 1952 and becoming one of the most exported French armored vehicles of the Cold War. Its distinctive oscillating turret housed an automatic loading system for the 75mm SA50 L/57 gun, derived from the German 7.5 cm KwK 42; the autoloader allowed a three-man crew (driver, gunner, commander) and a compact hull. The vehicle weighs 14.5 tonnes and is powered by a SOFAM 8Gxb diesel producing 270 horsepower for 18.6 hp/t and a top speed of 61 km/h forward.
Main armament is the 75 mm cannon with HE and AP (PCOT-51P) rounds in a 12-round revolver-type autoloader, with a coaxial 7.5 mm MAC 31 machine gun. The turret has smoke grenades for screening; sights are a 7.5x telescope and 6x periscope with no laser rangefinder or stabilizer. An optional SS.11 ATGM addon was offered for improved anti-armour capability.
This vehicle features a single addon: SS.11 ATGMs. The addon costs 750 points; this upgrade equips the AMX-13 with four LFK SS.11 MACLOS ATGMs. While they boast a formidable 600 mm maximum penetration, they are difficult to control due to their MACLOS guidance system. Furthermore, the launchers obscure the gunner's sight, hindering main cannon accuracy until the missiles have been expended.
