The 2S19 is a Self Propelled Howitzer, designated 2S19 Msta-S in full, developed in the Soviet Union and entering service in 1989 as the principal 152 mm howitzer of Russian and several other armies. The Msta-S replaced the 2S3 Akatsiya with improved rate of fire, range, and fire control; it has seen extensive use in conflicts including Ukraine. The vehicle weighs 42 tonnes and is crewed by four — driver, gunner, commander, and loader — on a tracked chassis. A ChTZ V-84-1 diesel produces 840 horsepower for 20 hp/t and a top speed of 60 km/h forward and 4 km/h reverse.
The 152mm 2A64 gun fires OF-72 HE in low, medium, and high charges with a 7 s reload and 50 rounds carried. The gunner has a 3.7x–5.5x sight and fire control system; the turret has smoke grenades. The commander has a stabilized cupola with a 12.7mm NSVT machine gun and 5x sight.
This vehicle features a single addon: 2S33 conversion. This addon costs 1250 points and equips the Msta-S with an autoloader, reducing the reload time from 7 seconds (With loader) to 5 seconds. Additionally, it replaces the standard OF-72 HE round with a more versatile suite of munitions: 3VOF91 HE, 3VOF91 Proxy, and 3VO28 Cluster rounds.
