The T-72B entered production in 1985 and formed the backbone of Soviet and later Russian and export armored forces; it saw combat in numerous conflicts and remains in service in upgraded forms. A three-man crew operates the 44.5-tonne tracked chassis, powered by a **ChTZ V-84-1** diesel (840 hp, 18.9 hp/t) for 60 km/h. The stabilized **125mm 2A46M** is fed by an autoloader and can fire 3BM32 APFSDS, **9M119** Refleks ATGM, 3BK18M HEAT, and 3OF26 HE; the gunner has a laser rangefinder, FCS, 8x main sight, and a dedicated 8x ATGM sight for missile guidance. A coaxial **7.62mm PKT** and a commander's **12.7mm NSVT** provide secondary fire; smoke grenades and engine smoke are fitted.
