Description
: The **Centurion Mk.5 AVRE** is a Support Vehicle — an Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers variant of the British Centurion, armed with the **L9A1 165mm** demolition gun for breaching fortifications and clearing obstacles. The Centurion AVRE saw extensive use from the 1960s onward, including in Northern Ireland. The 52.2 t tracked vehicle carries a crew of five — driver, gunner, commander, loader, and one passenger — and reaches 35 km/h forward. The **Rolls-Royce Meteor 4B** diesel produces 650 hp for 12.5 hp/t. The L9A1 fires L33A1 ammunition with a 22.6 s reload; a **7.62mm L3A1** machine gun and smoke grenades are fitted. The gunner has a 6x sight without rangefinder; the commander has a stabilized cupola with 6x sight. Neutral steering aids maneuverability in confined terrain.
