- Description
- The PUMA IFV is a tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicle developed by Germany for the Bundeswehr; it entered service in the 2010s and is one of the best-protected and most capable Western IFVs. Weighing 43 tonnes, it carries a crew of three plus six passengers and is powered by an MTU MT 892 Ka-501 diesel producing 1,200 hp for 27.9 hp/t and 70 km/h in both directions, with neutral steering and an automatic gearbox. The turret mounts a 30mm MK 30-2/ABM autocannon and 5.56mm MG4; optional addons include Spike-LR ATGMs and extra composite armour. The vehicle has laser and missile approach warning, stabilizer, and smoke grenades. The gunner has a laser rangefinder, Gen 3 thermals, and FCS with lead and tracking; the commander has a thermals-equipped CITV and multi-zoom optical sight, giving the PUMA excellent situational awareness and fire control.
