Team : The Leonic Commonwealth # Comet Mk.1 Role : Medium Tank ## [General information](/md/mtc/vehicles/comet-mk1.md#general-information) Description : The **Comet Mk.1** is a Medium Tank, a British cruiser tank that entered service in late 1944 and combined the [Cromwell](/md/mtc/vehicles/cromwell-v.md)’s mobility with a more powerful **77mm OQF Mk.II** gun derived from the 17-pounder. It weighs 33.5 tonnes with a crew of five — driver, gunner, bow gunner, commander, and loader — and is tracked. The **Rolls-Royce Meteor Mark III** produces 600 hp for 17.9 hp/t and a top speed of 52 km/h, with neutral steering and an engine smoke system. The main gun is complemented by coaxial and bow **7.92 mm BESA** machine guns; the gunner has no stabilizer or rangefinder. Lower profile and improved armament made it an effective late-war cruiser.
