Description
: The **BRDM-2** is an Armoured Personnel Carrier and a Soviet 4×4 amphibious reconnaissance vehicle that entered service in the 1960s, replacing the BRDM-1. Produced in large numbers and widely exported, it became one of the most recognizable light armoured vehicles of the Cold War. Crewed by a driver, gunner, and commander, the 7 t wheeled hull is powered by a **GAZ-41** diesel producing 140 hp for a 20 hp/t power-to-weight ratio, with a top speed of 100 km/h on roads and 4 km/h afloat.
Armament consists of a turret-mounted **14.5mm KPVT** heavy machine gun paired with a **7.62mm PKT** coaxial machine gun; the gunner and commander each have optical sights (2.6× and 5× zoom respectively) but no laser rangefinder or stabilizer. The vehicle is fully amphibious and relies on its small silhouette and mobility for survival rather than heavy armour.
